Posted by: admin | Comments (11)
Thursday, October 15th, 2009

What’s more these techniques work no matter what type of business you’re promoting.

Do you have your own “brick & mortar” business?

Are you doing MLM / Network marketing?

How about other products & services?

These five techniques WILL help you attract tons of leads into your business.
a

Building your Online business can be a frustrating experience if you aren’t experienced or skilled in advertising.  Even if you are used to traditional (off-line) advertising techniques the Internet is a whole other animal. When I got involved in the online marketing profession, I didn’t know how to advertise or market at all, and as a result I struggled to achieve the level of success that I knew was possible online.

After years of trying various things I finally discovered that the proper use of some specific online marketing techniques was the key to that would allow me to accomplish my dreams.
I had a period of time where I was experimenting with different tactics.  Some of them worked, and continue to work today, and some of them I decided to never spend one ounce of energy on, ever again – and neither should you.
a

Firstly, learn from my mistakes and let me share with you what you should NOT do.
a

Don’t use ANY ‘Blackhat’  advertising tactics, ever.  The term ‘Black Hat’ refers to any attempt on the part of the marketer to ‘trick’ search engines or websites into thinking that you are something you’re not in an attempt to subversively generate traffic for your business.

This is not only irritating for the thousands of people who click on pages that are supposed to have one thing and have another, but it is frustrating as a marketer to constantly be changing your tactics. Search engines absolutely HATE “Blackhat” advertising and Will blacklist your business if you’re caught doing it.   Why do they hate it?  A search engine will only survive as long as it’s able to deliver relevant results on searches people are doing. Blackhat tactics results in search engines delivering irrlevant result. If this happens enough people will stop using the search engine company and it goes out of business. Also as a consumer it’s irritating when you can’t find relevant results to your searches.
A great example of ‘blackhat’ internet advertising is trying to ‘trick’ craigslist into accepting your home business ads in the Jobs section at craigslist.  Because there is so much subversive MLM advertising in the Jobs section at craigslist (MLM is not a job), it is a pain for even a legitimate company to post their ad to the Jobs section.  Plus, blackhat tactics never work for very long.
So what are some online advertising techniques that work?  Here I have listed some ‘White Hat’ SEO friendly online advertising techniques that can immediately help you in your business, listed in order of personal preference:

Social Media Marketing is an excellent strategy that can make your business more profitable even if you don’t have a website.

As an Internet Marketing Consultant I often get asked ‘What is Social Media?’ and ‘How can I use Social Media in my business’.
I order to answer these questions and to provide a source of information I’ve written ‘How To Use Social Media To Build Your Brand – A Guide For Business Owners And Marketers’.

It’s aimed at owners and marketers of small to medium size businesses who are interested in exploring ways to leverage the power of the Internet to build awareness for their products and services.

What is Social Media?

As defined by Wikipedia Social media are primarily Internet-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and “building” of shared meaning among communities, as people share their stories and experiences.

Forms of Social Media include:

SOCIAL NETWORKS
These sites allow people to build personal web pages and then connect with
friends to share content and communication. The biggest social networks are
MySpace, Facebook and Bebo.
BLOGS
Perhaps the best known form of social media, blogs are online journals, with
entries appearing with the most recent first. Popular blog platforms are Wordpress, Blogger and Typepad
WIKIS
These websites allow people to add content to or edit the information on them, acting
as a communal document or database. The best-known wiki is Wikipedia, the
online encyclopaedia which has over 2 million English language articles.
PODCASTS
Audio and video files that are available by subscription, through services like Apple
iTunes
.
FORUMS
Areas for online discussion, often around specific topics and interests. Forums came
about before the term “social media” and are a powerful and popular element of
online communities.
CONTENT COMMUNITIES
Communities which organize and share particular kinds of content. The most popular
content communities tend to form around photos (Flickr), bookmarked links
(del.icio.us) and videos (YouTube).
MICROBLOGGING
Social networking combined with bite-sized blogging, where small amounts of content
(‘updates’) are distributed online and through the mobile phone network. Twitter is the clear leader in this field.

I’ll be looking at these forms of Social Media in more detail over the next few months.

Small business owners are realising the importance of leveraging the power of social networking sites to help market their businesses.

The problem a business owner with limited time and resources faces is where to start and how to make your Social Marketing efforts effective.

John Jantsch at Duct Tape Marketing has written a nice article where he suggests there should be a hierarchy of strategies to Social Marketing. This Hierarchy is much like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs which states that a level in the hierarchy must be mastered before moving on to the next level.

These levels can broadly be categorized as Blogging, RSS, Social Search, Social Bookmarking, Social Networks, Micro
