Every year thousands of people all over the world sign up with one or other Network Marketing / MLM company hoping to make some additional spending money or enough money to eventually quit their regular job.
They start off full of enthusiasm and are fired up, ready to be the next top performer. They sell some merchandise to a few of their relatives and friends. Then reality sets in and they find their leads dry up, they make very few sales and just can’t seem to sponsor people to build their downline. They quit saying “I’m just not a salesperson”
This is unfortunately true for 97% of people who start out in Network Marketing. That’s right, just think of it, 97% of people who start in Network Marketing DO NOT make any real money.
There are four main reasons why people fail and they are:
Lack of leads. If you don’t have a steady stream of leads coming into your
business, you don’t have a business.
Lack of money. Building your residual income takes time. People run out of money marketing their businesses in the early stages before they have enough residual income to pay for their marketing.
Lack of Marketing Training. When you join a Network Marketing company you’re given access to a cloned corporate site, generic marketing material and everyone in the company is using essentially the same marketing techniques.
People Buy From People
How You Differentiate Yourself from the crowd is going to determine your success.
Lack of duplication. You don’t want to and don’t have the time to keep doing the same thing over and over.
What if …
- you could generate more leads than you can handle and have people calling you rather than you having to chase after people who aren’t interested in your product.
- you could generate income from leads even if they don’t buy your product.
- you are seen as the expert in your field.
- you could duplicate your system.
If you could do this, do you think you’d be more successful in your MLM business. Here’s the system I use.
Here are 10 steps you can follow to make you more successful…
THE TEN STEPS
1. SET YOUR GOALS
If you don’t know where you are going how will you get there?
Think of what you want to accomplish. Do you want to save for a college education, a new car, new home or do you want to quit your day job?
You can get whatever you want, but you must want it enough to do whatever it takes to get it.
Write down your goal and set a target date of when you want to achieve it.
I break my goals down into smaller tasks and keep a note of when I reach each milestone. This really helps me stay focussed.
Work consistently towards your goal and try finish at least one task every day.
2. BUILD YOUR LIST
If you were ask me what the single most important task is in Network Marketing I would say it’s building your list.
Everything you do should be aimed at building your list of leads. Very few people buy from your business the first time they’re introduced to your product or service. In fact statistics show that it takes on average seven contacts before people do business with you.
You list enables you to stay in touch with your leads and existing customers.
I use AWeber to build my list.
3. BECOME AN EXPERT
I’ve said it before and here it is again. People buy from people not from companies. By becoming an expert in your field you provide your target audience with information they’re looking for. You solve their problems by providing a solution.
In doing this you build trust with your audience. They see you as the expert in the field and they feel comfortable with you. Only then will they buy from you.
4. THE MAGIC WORD IS “NETWORK”
It’s called Network Marketing after all. You build you list (which is actually your network) by interacting with people, participating in discussions, and providing information.
You increase your value to others and by doing so they seek you out.
5. EXPECT NO’S
Not everyone is going to be interested in your product or service. Don’t expect everyone on your list to buy from you. In fact only about 95% of people on your list are going to be interested in your product. That’s OK. Keep at it, you never know but that 95% who don’t buy from you today could still be a valuable referral for you. So long as you provide valuable information and are seen as an expert.
6. SCHEDULE YOUR TIME
It is so easy to waste time on unimportant tasks, especially when there are things that need doing that we’re not comfortable with. The Internet makes it so much easier to be ineffective.
I schedule my time as follows. At the beginning of the week I decide what I’d like to accomplish for the week. I then break it down into daily tasks and block off time in my calendar for the task.
I treat the time I’ve set aside for these tasks the same as I would as if I was meeting with someone.
In this way I find I’m able to focus more and get things done more efficiently.
7. BE POSITIVE
You’ll always have setbacks no matter what business you’re in.
Accept the difficulties and see them as opportunities to learn and do things better. Looking at things this way helps you stay positive and ensures you keep moving forward towards your goals.
8. HAVE AN OFFICE AREA
Even if you’re only in it to make a little extra spending money treat it like a business.
Have a dedicated work area. It doesn’t have to be a proper office but can be a corner in your room set aside specifically for this purpose.
Having a dedicated area helps you focus. When you’re there you’re working.
9. BE EVERYWHERE!
This is very true for Network Marketing and especially true for marketing on the Internet. There are a ton of Social Networking sites.
The more places you participate in the more success you’re going to have. Decide on what areas you’re going to concentrate on and then go for it.
A word of caution though. It’s better to be fairly active in a hand full of places than to spread yourself too thin and not have the time to constantly build your brand.
The name of the game is consistency. Keep plugging away and you will get results. If you’re going to post one article and the stop, you may as well not bother.
Pick a few strategies and stick with them. Here’s what I do, as an example. Although I don’t want you to copy my strategy exactly. Come up with a strategy that you feel comfortable with.
My online marketing efforts:
Facebook
Google PPC advertising
YouTube
Twitter
Blog
I try add some info to each of these Social Networking sites each week.
Other areas you may want to try include:?
Article publishing
MySpace
Flickr
List Builders
Keyword Research
Ezines
Forum Marketing etc.
10. HANDLE MONEY WISELY
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, one of the reasons people fail at Network Marketing is that they run out of money before they start generating enough residual income.
You often need to spend money to make money, but you can easily waste a lot of money on the Internet if you’re not careful. Pay Per Click advertising for example is a very effective way of generating leads if you know what you’re doing. The learning curve however is steep and if you’re not careful you could blow your whole budget and not generate the leads you need.
In the beginning take it slow, use Social Media tools to generate free leads. Set a marketing budget and stick to it.
Following these simple ten steps will go a long way to helping you achieve success in you MLM business.
